New Bulgarian Patent Attorneys Chamber Bill is under discussion in the Council of Ministers

With this new legislation in Bulgaria will be established for the first time a professional association of patent and trademark attorneys. The profession of industrial property representative is introduced in Bulgaria in 1993 with the adoption of the Patent Law. The Regulation on Industrial Property Representatives was also adopted in 1993 to regulate the professional qualification and entry into the register of patent and trademark attorneys.

Almost twenty years have passed and the need has emerged for a more structured legislation to regulate the development of the professional qualification, the entry requirements for the register of patent and trademark attorneys and the relationships among specialists practicing the profession. Changes are also impending due to the need to align the national legislation with the EU requirements for the regulated professions and the requirements for free movement of goods and services as one of the main principles of establishing the European Community.

We expect the final draft to be entered for discussion in the Parliament shortly.
